The Stingers did extremely well at the recently completed West Niagara Invitational Tournament. The girls were terrific in winning their division with a record of two wins and a draw; defeating Newmarket 2-0, drawing with Brantford and displaying a gutsy effort in overcoming the previously unbeaten Salfleet Fury.
The first place finish meant a quarter-final match up versus a very physical Pickering Gators team. The game was fairly even with the Gators scoring first before Natalie evened the match midway through the second half. Unfortunately a questionable referring decision (one of many) led to the decisive Pickering goal.
While every player contributed to the overall team achievement, special mention must go to goalkeeper Hillary and her defensive unit for only allowing two goals in four games.
Congratulations to the girls for a very eventful and successful weekend, both on and off the field. A special thank you to Louis, Laurie and Nicole for once again ensuring the team was well prepared in all aspects of team organization.
