The Stingers were once again denied in their attempt to garner their first win of the CGSL season. A debatable late goal (which may have entered the goal through a hole in the side netting, after the ball had crossed the touchline) gifted the West Rouge Storm a 3-2 win.
The field conditions – grass too long and no visible lines (or linesmen) - led to a rather slow-paced affair. The thickness of the field initially prevented both teams from playing the ball along the ground with any type of consistency, and contributed to the 0-0 halftime score line.
All that changed in the second half. The Stingers opened the scoring on a long-range laser from Natalie. West Rouge struck back with two quick goals before Saffara tied the match with a delicate chip shot off a corner kick. The above-mentioned winning goal sealed the Stingers’ fate.
The girls will take on East Gwillimbury on June 19th at St. Andrews College. Let’s hope they have cut the grass by then.
