The Stingers travelled to North York last week to take on the high-flying Toronto Eagles (winners of the West Niagara Tournament and undefeated in league play over the past two years).
The girls – to this observer – played their strongest game of the year in defeating the Eagles 2-0. Although the Eagles had more possession, they were unable to break down the stalwart Stingers defensive wall. Hillary had an inspirational evening in goal, coming off her “line” on numerous occasions to thwart the opposition.
After a goalless first half, the Stingers opened the scoring. Katie rose high to bravely head in a corner kick from Sabrina G. Darcy added the second goal with a powerful drive that the Eagles goalkeeper was only able to get her fingertips on before the ball trickled into the goal. From that point on the Stingers simply continued their stifling defensive ways to secure their second victory of the season.
Kudos to:
The girls will strive to continue their winning streak against Whitby “B” on July 3rd at St. Andrews.
