The Aurora Indoor Soccer League (AISL) kicked off this past weekend with the Stingers winning their first game 1-0 versus the Aurora Yellow team (U15).
Whilst achieving a victory in any game is paramount, participation in the indoor league/tournament ultimately serves to prepare the team for the outdoor season. This message was accentuated in the pre-game pep talk.
First facet of play to work on was the girls somewhat troubling habit of “sleepwalking” through the first part of the game. The result was much better, however not perfect. The opposition although not very experienced were enthusiastic and somewhat physical which at times had the girls on their heels. But as the game progressed the Stingers gradually took control of the midfield, and ergo the game.
All in all, a very encouraging start to the AISL season. Quite a few impartial spectators complimented the team on its cohesive play and camaraderie. A feeling of true optimism permeated the post game scrum.
Welcome to Elizabeth and Rhea. Thanks for providing some much appreciated depth to the squad.
