There are games that are best forgotten, and this was one of them. The Stingers managed to eke out a slender 1-0 victory over Lake Simcoe to remain undefeated in the AISL.
The match bordered on tedium at times, as both teams failed to hold possession for any prolonged length of time. On a more positive note the Stingers once again kept a “clean sheet” – didn’t allow a goal for you soccer novices. Alexis handled all attacks into her penalty area with her usual aplomb.
For the second week in a row it was one of the defenders who scored a first-half game winner. Hillary, who possesses a lethal touch, scored on one of her many attempts at goal. Her shot caught the top corner of the Lake Simcoe goal, just beyond the outstretched fingers of the opposing goalkeeper. Subsequently, the Stingers could not muster that penetrating “through ball” that the forwards were waiting on.
The second half produced much of the same.
The team looks forward to redeeming themselves with a more consistent effort against the always tough Toronto Eagles.
