The Stingers were served a sample of the quality of competition they can expect during the upcoming outdoor season. The result, while somewhat misleading as to the level of domination, was a 4-0 loss to the Toronto Eagles.
The game started well for the Stingers. They were able to throttle the high powered Eagles offense till late in the first half. A fortuitous bounce coupled with a lack of urgency in clearing their penalty area led to the first goal of the match. The goal was the first allowed by the Stingers this season (indoor tournament and league play).
The Eagles expanded upon their advantage with three more goals in the second half to run out 4-0 victors. Of greater concern than the final score may be the continued goal famine. Although the Stingers did manage to garner possession in the opposing half, they often failed to deliver the decisive pass/shot.
Oh well, its early days and the games after all are only exhibition. It’s not the result you take from the game, but the lessons learned.
The girls will look to get back to their winning ways against the Barrie Spirit on Saturday.
