The Stingers extended their unbeaten streak in the AISL to six games with a 1-0 victory over the Barrie Spirit. Coincidentally all of the Stingers’ victories have been by one goal (must keep the supporters on the edge of their seats).
The Stingers did manage to control the middle of the field, but the dearth of scoring chances continued its worrisome trend. Barrie, on occasion, threatened the Stinger goal through a series of high crosses but Alexis pulled down each attempt with nary a concern.
The game was nearing the end of the first half when Julia – a recent and valuable addition – scored the only goal of the game. Julia took advantage of Sarah’s long throw-in and Monika’s tenacity to strike a volley just under the bar of the Barrie net.
The AISL is now on a three week hiatus to accommodate the “March Break”. The Stingers return to the field on March 28th against the Toronto Eagles. The girls will seek retribution for their only defeat in the AISL. The game will also determine whether the Stingers advance to the League Final on April 4th.
