This past weekend saw the Stingers compete in the Frank Sobil Spring Classic (Oshawa) Tournament. Someone forgot to tell Mother Nature that it was early May, not late February, as the biting winds and driving rain (and occasional snow) made it extremely difficult to focus on the task at hand – playing soccer. The weather caused havoc with the schedule. Kick-offs were delayed and games temporarily abandoned as parents and players alike looked for refuge in the nearest warm vehicle. That being said, all the teams had to deal with the same conditions – no excuses.
The girls failed to advance past the preliminary round, losing out on the 4th tiebreaker – least goals allowed – by one goal. Ironically the team tied in the standings with the Stingers - Darlington - went on to win the tournament.
The Stingers will open the CGSL season at home against Vaughan B on May 27th at Fleury Park. Kick off is at 7:00 p.m.
